At the LCHS- piing items and practicing the 5Ws

The day we spent at the Latah Historical Society was so interesting and the kids were able to explore so many artifacts. They were respectful, interested, and totally surprised by what was there and how old some items were.

The kids are practicing thinking about how the items were used or what they were. What are the details about them that can tell information about the person who used it. So many things to consider. When we got back to school the list of questions and their curiosity had grown being able to handle the materials.

The beaded shirt from the last 1880s had all kinds of things that made it seems unusual and mysterious. We all talked about the person that may have worn the item or made the item. All of the hundreds of bead were sewn on by hand. You could see all the individual threads.

The kids used a Frayer model for collecting information and writing down ideas

Items had some paperwork, but not much, specially those collected in the last 30 years.
