Happy New Year 2018!
The kids came back and we started diving into the number sense of multiplication-- working with vocabulary and breaking down the idea of the relationship between multiplication and division. It is always important to show them that there are ways to practice that are fun and very effective.
I got the dice and dominoes out this week. They threw 2 dice for one factor and 2 for the second factor. The solved and told each other the fact family for each product. Then, I used the dominoes to practice counting in the multiple of numbers. Each triad went around the table to get 100.
These pictures are from all the fun of working cooperatively. :)

These kids had fun using their school materials to make a 3D equation! |
As we were starting to read the next Chapter of Idaho History, we go back to how we started the year in learning to take notes and paraphrase. The kids gave definitions for the words that have a squiggle line underneath them. That is the way we mark vocabulary that we want to make sure everyone knows. The scribing I did on the board is taking down their collective thinking about those words. We have come so far in reading in context. The first times we do this activity of
thinking out loud is really hard. They all grow more confident as they contribute to the discussion and if one of them does get stuck, they can ask for help. Other classmates have their hands raised and then that student can call on another to help build the answer.
