Coco and Erin visit - adding impact the article we read in Super Science about Service Dogs

We have read about dogs--their history and DNA research to track how breeds are connected and then we read about how dogs learn and help people. Ms. Erin has just gotten a dog that she is training and the kids were able to ask questions to her about what type of dog that she has and why she picked him. That information was tested against the websites that we used for research. At work-- harness on and below, at play, harness off.

Teacher Choo did a fantastic job teaching Chinese twice a week. She was very thorough with pronunciation and the kids were having short conversations. She taught them song and really brought another culture to our students. It was a true exchange. She taught through song and lots of choral learning. We really enjoyed having her with us! This year we worked with Mr. Zach from the Latah County Historical Society. The kids did research and created stories about objects given to the society over the years. There were many drafts, writers's circles and revisions, Creating a past to an object is hard and this project provided the opportunity for some deep thinking about the 5 Ws.

3 Spirit Days before Student-Led Conferences--100% participation-- wonderful!

This was probably the favorite day for the kids. They dressed as characters or in costume--something real or fantasy. They had a good time sharing who they were and we still got lots done. We had a big talk about the word origin of 'hallowed'. They learned it is an old-2000 year old word, and the change of seasons is how humans first started keeping up with time. We discussed being good neighbors as they Trick or Treat and how as a community people enjoy talking to them about their costumes. In this picture, they are acting as their character. Newsela-- excellent non fiction articles that the students can read at home using their Doceo Accounts and going to one of our Google Classrooms. There are thousands of articles and plenty of assignments that they can do and the work is saved in their Google Drive folder. I see the work as it is in process. The articles can count as Reading Log entries too. Awake and then asleep for Pajama Day. Peer Review o
